Historic buildings – part of Carlyle College’s campus

In 1859 a grant of 3066 acres was made to Michael Short. The land had several owners including E Greene and G Ross, who sold it in 1890. The farm then owned by a Mr. Wylie subdivided the land in 1894. Other owners like Frederick Robinson followed and the main school building was built circa 1900. The land was leased by a Miss Evans in 1900 and the St Winifred’s Girls School was opened. She was to be headmistress from 1908 to 1920, when it became Chippenham Boys School until 1922. In 1922, the property was acquired by Sidney Edminson and run as Kings School until 1939, when it was acquired by John Carlyle-Mitchell who was headmaster from 1955 to 1990. In 1955, his son John ran the school from 1955 to 1990. John and Tanya kept the flag flying until 2019, when the school closed. The school was acquired by Tim and Louisa Johnson and Carlyle College was opened in January 2022. This historic school with its historic buildings will now cater for Grade R through to Grade 12. The images in this album were taken in January 2022 , in the week prior to opening.
