In 1860, George and Annie North arrived in Durban and set out for Snaresbrook, now known as Northdene where his brother in law Henry Middleton had acquired the 335 acre farm, Buffelsbosch. The farm operated initially as a Sugar Estate on the north bank of the Umhlatuzana river. It was upon this estate that the homes Bonavista and Snaresbrook were later built. The original North home was on the south bank farm of Shallcross. It was on this estate that the home Snaresbrook, featured here was built and has been restored and looked after by the Olivier family.
