Strachan & Co Ltd 1923 Trading Store and Hotel
One of the delights of going into the smaller villages in KZN is coming across some of the old trading stores. The trading stores in years gone by were the central points for the local farmers to obtain there much needed farm goods and groceries. Many farmers only came in to “town”, once a month, and this was a good opportunity to do business, but also to catch up on the local news. Often the local hotel provided the venue.
The old Strachan & Co Ltd hotel and trading store were no exception and the images here are a good example of the early establishments. This trading store is one of my favourites.
